MEETING #2 FOR REGIONAL FOOD CENTER: SUCCESS!

On February 9th, the LRN hosted a second meeting at Blake Memorial Library for a second meeting to discuss possible scenarios for developing either a regional food center, CSA, or an online ordering service for purchasing local foods and essential items. Discussion among the twenty attendees was energetic and many good ideas and questions were raised. Grant monies are available through the State to help with the set-up and it is highly likely that, through the course of further discussion and planning, we will see some combination of these scenarios come to fruition … as early as this summer? A third meeting will be planned soon and notices will be sent via the listserv as well as flyers posted around … please plan to attend.

SURVEY ABOUT A POSSIBLE REGIONAL FOOD CENTER

On November 3, at Blake Memorial Library, about 50 people participated in a meeting to discuss a possible Regional Food Center.  We would like to build on the momentum and enthusiasm the community showed for the regional food center concept and for local foods in general. As a follow-up to that meeting and to help us plan the next event, we hope you will complete a brief survey (10 questions) before January 7th. Follow this link to the survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/KQF288V.

If you are a consumer, instead of a grower/farmer, we would like to know your thoughts about a possible Regional Food Center. What type of outlet for local foods would you like to see?  What other ideas do you have about this project?  These replies can be emailed to Val Stori at valstori@yahoo.com.

We will collate the results of this survey and share the information with the other three local groups who are working on a possible Regional Food Center. Please plan to attend the meeting on Thursday, February 9, at Blake Memorial Library for follow-up discussion based on the survey results — let’s begin to get the ball rolling!

4 RIVERS FOOD PROJECT FOLLOW-UP

On November 3, nearly 50 people turned out in East Corinth for an initial meeting to discuss the need for making locally-grown food available conveniently and affordably. Read the minutes from the meeting and stay tuned for the next steps in turning our collective ideas, questions and visions into a strategic plan.
